The Captain's Bride

"The Captain's Bride" is a wonderful story about a newly wed couple, their friends and family members who journey from Norway to America in search of a new life. This historical tale provides true to life characters struggle with and acting acknowledging challenges each of us face today, such as bothersome siblings, marital disagreements, sexual temptations, financial dilemmas, and solitude. This story is an unbelievable tale of adventure, from Norway to the high seas, to the rocky shores and plains of America in the 1880s.
Mrs. Bergren uses different quotes from the bible through out the book such as "Psalms 130, Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice; let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities,O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee.... I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
Lisa T. Bergren writes a brilliant page turner that is sure to delight many readers over and over again.... I loved it! I'm also looking forward to reading the rest of the Northern Lights series.

One Glorious Ambition

Jane Kirkpatrick’s ability to explore the human spirit makes One Glorious Ambition a glorious novel of love, compassion, and duty. Dorothea Dix was born a nineteenth-century woman with little rights, She dares the nation’s most influential men to provide humane treatment for the hopeless—the handicapped and insane. Although the story is sad at times Dorothea Dix's character brings vitality and hope to the people of her time. She is caring to a fault, even though it sometimes makes her ill. Because she has seen her mother go through a mental illness it gave her passion to help those who are in a similar state. She holds on to family value even when forces beyond her control makes it imposable.

"I enjoyed the book immensely and would recommend it to anyone who loves to read"
